As members of the BYU Management Society, we are guided by the mission statement of “Building Moral and Ethical Leadership Around the World.” We define ethical leadership as “the demonstration of normatively appropriate conduct through personal actions and interpersonal relationships, and the promotion of such conduct to followers through two-way communication, reinforcement, and decision-making” (Brown et al., 2005: 120).

As a society, we will:

  • Focus our efforts and meet purposefully
  • Grow people
  • Respect others and act professionally
  • Think globally
  • Align with the mission of BYU and the Marriott School
  • Live the vision of the BYUMS

The principles and doctrines that the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints teaches will benefit and uplift the people of every nation, clime, and culture. The principles named in the 13th Article of Faith states, “We believe in being honest, true, chaste, benevolent, virtuous, and in doing good to all men; indeed, we may say that we follow the admonition of Paul-We believe all things, we hope all things, we have endured many things, and hope to be able to endure all things. If there is anything virtuous, lovely, or of good report or praiseworthy, we seek after these things.” The principles outlined in the 13th Article of Faith can be used as the fundamental guiding ethical principles for BYU management society members across the globe.
